Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave...

Remember this man? He's Keith Ellison, the first Muslim ever elected to the U.S. Congress. There was quite a to do when he insisted on having his ceremonial swearing in on the Koran rather than the Bible.

Yesterday, it would seem he created another stir when in a speech he likened President Bush to Hitler and insinuated Bush may have been responsible for the 9/11 attacks. We have our share of Congressional representatives who at times seem to be a brick short of a load. If this conspiracy theory had been put forward by any one of them I'd have given it little thought. I'm uncomfortable with this particular representative because today's internet headlines are screaming "Al-Qaida Likely to Attack U.S."

Bush tells us we are fighting a group of radicals within a peaceful religion. I have long wanted to believe that but I'm beginning to have my doubts. At least I'm beginning to pay more attention to the information available. Tucker Carlson had a chilling interview with Bryan Daly, co-director of a new film titled Islam, What The West Needs To Know. Mr. Daly pointed out how long Islam has been around and the fact that it is not truly a "religion" in the western sense of the term but rather a political ideology with an expansionary focus. In other words, conquer the world and install Islam law by conquest.

He went on to explain how this is nothing new but we are new to it. The Europeans beat them back centuries ago and they were in decline as we were emerging. It is a theocracy that does not divide church and state as we do.

Well, they are on the rise again and having far greater success than is comfortable. It concerns me when one of our own elected officials tries to obfuscate the truth. As much as I dislike what the Bush administration represents, what they have done to our rights and freedoms, they are not yet the main enemy. Should the unthinkable ever happen and they succeed in their quest for world domination, the failure of this administration to pursue them after 9/11 will be a historical beacon.

If my short take doesn't raise the hair on the back of your neck, listen to the interview with Mr. Daly.

And give some thought to the wisdom of Sir Walter Scott. "Oh what a tangled web we weave. When first we practice to deceive!"

I think if Mr. Ellison keeps on in that vein, he's likely to be recalled. Right or wrong though it may be.

I was roundly criticized on a "local blog" for objecting to this man using a Koran. To me, he was simply poking a stick in the eye of public opinion and feelings. I'm not in the least surprised by his opinions or his actions. I agree with recalling him. Is he upholding the Constitution? Is he supporting this country? Still, the great beauty, and ultimate weakness, of our country is the freedoms it guarantees. I believe it was Josef Stalin who said, "America will be destroyed by her Constitution".

Thought provoking final comment, Wondering. Though it seems to me this administration is doing a pretty good job of dismantling it. It's not the Constitution but those who would destroy it.

Well..Josef never met Bush! Different times. The point being, it is our Constitution that hogties us (if you will) from certain actions that insure information and safety. Not necessarily (always) a bad thing. And Stalins perspective was from the point of no freedoms whatsoever. For him disaster was losing control...which is exactly what ultimately happened. He believed our freedoms and legal constraints on government, were destructive to ruling a country in the manner he believed successful.

"Insinuated" ...in your opinion. I just watched the video, and I'm not sure that was his point. I think a relevant point is that prominent figures benefited from 9/11. If it weren't for 9/11 we wouldn't be in IRAQ. With an approval rating of what, 26%?, I think Americans are finally starting to wake up to Bush's crap.

And it shouldn't have been a bid deal for the man to use the Koran- in the country that brags about Freedom of Religion. Just not for our Congressmen?

Interesting stuff though, thanks for sharing! :)

angela...If Islam were really a religion, no problem with the Koran. But it is not a religion, it is political. And the most appalling attitude toward women that one could imagine. How anyone, particularly a western woman, could defend Islam positively escapes me.
