My Hero

During these days of honoring heros, I found myself a real live one. Keith Olbermann of MSNBC's "Count Down" has always been a favorite of mine. Just being at odds with Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly is enough to make him a hero but his commentary on "the empty hole" propels him into the super hero stratosphere. Yep. Look at him: mild mannered in appearance, bespectacled and graying hair. But the fire in his belly for truth and straight talk is as refreshing as the first fall breeze after a long hot summer.

Taking the solemn occasion of 9/11 he delivered a heart wrenching reflection and a scathing review of the administration.

Finally, a television personality with the courage and conviction to speak the truth. You may agree. You may not. But every American citizen who truly cares about what's happening to our country, and those who don't, this commentary should be required reading.

The media is constantly under fire for not telling it like it is. Nonsense. It's that they don't always play by the rules the powers that be would like to dictate. NBC's Richard Engle was on Chris Matthews show Sunday and was very forthright about the conditions in Iraq. Michael Ware of Time Magazine is another who pulls no punches in his reporting. As the times and circumstances dictate I hope these men continue on the path they have chosen for they have opened themselves to ridicule and derision by those who would tarnish the truth.

It is however, our country, and we have a right to the truth. We don't get it from the politicians. We should know that by now. It is our obligation to ourselves and to these journalists who opt not to be puppets of an ideology to encourage them, support them and most importantly LISTEN to them and in turn make the politicians LISTEN to us.

I like Olbermann, too. Don't you just love his "Worst Person In The World?" Seems to me he has become increasingly serious in his commentaries, lately. Good. Compare and contrast that with people like Chris Matthews, who sold out a long time ago.

That is how I like the news... Truth. Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Tell me like it is.
I don't want it sugar coated... I hate the word spin, wish it was illegal to spin. It is just a fancy word for lying.
Just give me the old fashion, truth.
