Oh boy, oh boy, O! You go girl! Presidential politics is getting to be fun! Who would have thought it would be the women. Especially the supposed surrogates!
If you think Michelle Obama and Elizabeth Edwards are formidable, you ain't seen nuttin' yet! It has long been known that Oprah supports Obama. Not long ago she held a fund raiser in LA bringing some three million dollars into his campaign.
Having made it clear she had no interest in political office for herself, she has certainly made her preference known. It must have the Clinton camp worried. They've pulled out an old campaign warrior of their own - Barbra. Remember the concert she gave for Bill way back when?
It is interesting that the women Hilliary claims to have as supporters and needs, idolize Oprah! Have you ever watched her show? It's what a rapture must be like!
Talk about divided loyalties. After all, it's Hillary who is running for President; not Oprah. Nor Barbra for that matter. So who has the upper hand here?
I sought out the great sociological equalizer for each celebrity surrogate - their web sites.
Oprah's is filled with links to her good works. For intellectual pursuits there is her book club, for media there is a series of magazines and HARPO productions, for just about everything else there is O Philanthropies which includes everything from her leadership academy for girls in Africa, to Angel Network projects like the neighborhoods being build for Katrina victims to a new school based program, O Ambassadors, "to inspire young people to become active, compassionate and knowledgeable global citizens". Wow. That's pretty heavy duty stuff!
Streisand's site is more opinion and politics. One heading reads, "Statements - read the latest comments straight from Barbra". I love this one, "Truth Alerts - Barbra sets the record straight"! "Headlines" seems to be a compilation of her take on the news. Another heading is "Barbra Streisand - All Barbra all the time. Coming soon". O! Wow.
So there you have it. A heavy weight match. Who will be standing at the bell? I haven't a clue but I have a feeling it will truly be blood sport!
