Too Cute By Half

Hillary should really quit trying to be so cute. Unless she has the where-with-all to charter a private jet every time she wants to travel beyond the local bus route, the price she'll have to pay for excess baggage will bankrupt her.

Okay, she flew to Chicago and talked with Obama about the Secretary of State's job. Those supposedly in the know say it wasn't offered, merely discussed. Yet it is also said the ball is in her court as whether or not to accept.

I am constantly trying to find ways to change my opinion of Hillary and Bill, but they sure make it difficult. Before her name was mentioned as a serious consideration for the post, it had been suggested that Bill's foreign financial involvements could pose a problem for Hillary should she be representing the administration. Bill.

Now they are dragging their feet during the vetting process. Those financial involvements of Bill's must be laid out with 100% transparency or Obama would be foolish to put her in that position. Should that not happen and Obama chooses to turn elsewhere I can hear the wailing from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pant Suit now! "He snubbed her for the Vice Presidency and now he's dangled this in front of her just to take it away. Sexist!" No. Bill.

This isn't the first time they've played cute with requested records. Remember during the primaries when they refused to release her papers from when she was First Lady? To the best of my recollection, they never did comply.

This is far more serious. The potential of public policy intertwining with fund raising efforts for Bill's Global Initiative could be disastrous. I'm beginning to think the Clinton's air of entitlement is dangerous to the well being of the nation, what's more Obama's presidency. They've a bond between themselves that is as mysterious as it is strong. I am beginning to doubt one could function without the other. The disturbing part, though, is they demand that everything be on their terms. They don't seem to grasp that Bill is no longer President. That had he been a more honorable one, Hillary might now be the President-elect. That she is not. Nor is she Vice President-elect. She is Senator Hillary Clinton, D, NY. Period.

I ask the women who are still her staunch supporters, what is it within her that prompts this self-destructive behavior? Is it Bill? Is it always going to be Bill?

If Hillary is ever going to live up to her potential, she needs to tell Bill to fold.

You're right, but I'm not sure that'll happen. I just don't know why we can't just move past the Clintons and get on with it. Ah, well, what do I know????

Personally, I was delighted with everything about his presidency except his sexual encounter. He got us into a great position financially with huge surpluses.

It took Bush less then eight years to ruin the economy.

I appreciated having an intelligent president. Hillary is even more intelligent. I think whet Bill Clinton has done to help third world countries wit their AIDS problems is wonderful.

I don't disagree with your premise that he is bright and is now doing good works or that Hillary is also bright. I'm not sure she's smarter. She doesn't have his political savvy. But why the game playing? They know how it works. If she wants the job and the financials need to be looked at, lay them out. If everything is above board, why not?

Your analysis of Hillary I believe is very correct, as far as it goes. I would also be leery of having someone in the Secretary of State position who is at the same time running for President. Wouldn't it be nice to have Colin Powell instead?

John, I don't think Hillary will run for President again unless Obama is a disaster and lasts only one term. It will be an "I told you so" gesture.

To have Colin Powell return to that slot , idealistically would be wonderful, but he bears the brunt of shoving the weapons of mass destruction theory down the throats of the world at the UN. Not a good choice because of that. Bush again.

I don't promote divorce...but had Hillary divorced Bill right after they got out of the White House (and she surely had cause) the possibilities would have been unlimited. He is an albatross around her neck, that she choses to keep, so it is best she stay in the Senate.

Do you think he will offer it to McCain?

CIs, the relationship between Bill and Hillary seems to me to be one of expedience. For him, because he has needed the discipline she has and he lacks. I think she genuinely loves him. He loves him too but owes her his loyalty. Gosh, call me "Dr. Dogwalker"! LOl.

As for McCain. Absolutely not. He will not be in the Obama administration. They are miles apart. What Obama needs from McCain is a conciliatory force rather than a dividing one. If they can have a civil working relationship, that will do.

I think it is admirable to see a couple stay together, despite the problems they have had. I have no speculations about who is smarter or their motivations. Despite all the talk about Hillary being a good Secretary of State, there is something that I cannot quite put my finger on that bothers me about this. It is not the financial disclosure hijinks; given the state of my own financial records -- which are a lot easier to track than the Clinton's -- it may be one of those jobs that beg for procrastination. I do think that Hillary Clinton has a brighter future in the Senate were she could assume the liberal lineage that flowed naturally to Ted Kennedy. There is a role for Hillary in the future of the U.S.; I am not persuaded this is the best fit.
