Breakfast In Yellowstone

I usually try to limit comments about vacations and accompanying photos, but this series, taken by my niece, are phenomenal.

We had spotted a big old bull buffalo lounging at the Mud Volcano. A ranger was present and a boardwalk kept us at a safe distance so we decided to get a closer look. Just as we were about to leave this mangy old fox came sauntering out of the brush and looked us over. I could just hear him saying , "Mornin' folks. Don't mind me. Just lookin' for a bite of breakfast." It was awesome. Though I'm sure the muskrat didn't agree.

Wow! What a great series of photos. We've been to Yellowstone five times and have never seen anything quite like that.

Phil,

It was amazing. It was probably around 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. and there were quite a few people looking at the Mud Volcano and the Bison. He was just so casual about it all. The whole episode lasted maybe five minutes. He got two of the muskrats. The Ranger then made people stand back so he could cross under the boardwalk without being nervous. He did, then nodded to the Bison and went on his way. It was really something.
