All's Fair In Love, War And Local Politics

Wow! The Spokesman Review candidate endorsements are out even before all the candidate profiles have been run. Is that planting a seed or what?

I am going to comment on only one race for Coeur d'Alene City Council, that for Seat 5. The two top contenders are John Bruning and Susie Snedaker. Yes, I have a link on this blog to Ms. Snedaker's web site. Yes, I know her personally and consider her a friend.

That being said, I find it interesting that the Spokesman gave Snedaker a strong endorsement as a "would do" candidate in favor of the hand picked candidate of the council who decided to run after Snedaker had declared. Bruning has been endorsed by out going council woman Dixie Reid who considers him a "team player". Hmmm.

It is stated he pushed for a design review process to guard against unsightly construction and obliteration of lake views. Anyone been downtown lately? It is also stated Bruning has longer and more "intimate involvement in the planning directions so closely linked to Coeur d'Alene's recent success". Hmmm.

Now, as for Ms. Snedaker, it is said she "has been a grass roots dynamo, tirelessly going to bat for neighborhoods and such citizen interests as keeping sex offenders from residing near schools. Her energy, engagement and decade on the planning and Zoning Commission would make her an effective City Council Member". No slouch in experience herself on Planning and Zoning.

To me, if I could vote in this election, a candidate who has been committed to, interested in and has fought for community wide issues for years, not just growth, would be the preferable choice.

Opinion.

Hey, was she at last winter's blogfest at Capone's? I'm bad with names, but she sure looks familiar.

Indeed she was Phil. Way back when everyone was still civil to one another.
