Condi Won't Be VP

I'm going to stick my neck out on this one.  Ever since this trial balloon was floated a spark of enthusiasm has emanated from the apathetic.  For naught I'm afraid.

Let's face it, she has the foreign policy creds Romney lacks.  She knows her way around Washington and the world.  She's a highly educated, experienced and articulate woman.  Frankly, I think she'd be wasted in the job.

I'm going to take her at her word.  Since she is not a politician I've some confidence in doing so.  She doesn't want the job.  Maybe even more, though she is politic enough not to say it, she doesn't want to share a losing ticket.

Romney has said she is not in the running for she is not 100% pro life.  That is no reason not to choose her.  The pro-lifers need to get real and understand their issue is but one and certainly not the most pressing facing this country.  Like the tea party, they have no tolerance for gray.  The world is full of grays.  Actually it can be a most effective nuance.

But if you want to argue the pro life issue, Ms. Rice is  on record as saying she is against late-term abortions and for notifying parents of minors seeking abortion.  Those are pretty strong points.

Where the absolutist pro lifers and I disagree may just be the most important.  She is quoted as saying, "I have not wanted to see the law changed because it's an area that I worry about the government being involved in."  Amen.

Don't expect the perfect vice presidential candidate.  First of all there is no such thing - the perfect candidate.  Just look at the two running for President!

Will The Candidates Please SAY Something!

I am sick and tired of this presidential campaign.  I don't want either man for president because neither has a clue about what's needed to get the country going again.

If Romney does, he had better start articulating it.  I seem him as a better manager than Obama, but that's about it.  He has no vision.  He has no fire.  No emotion.  It's almost like running for president is no more than another item to be checked off  the list on his timeline.  Little there to inspire.

As for Obama.  Any time he wants to stop talking about what Romney has or hasn't done in the past and what he, Obama, is going to do in the future, I might pay attention.  Otherwise he comes across to me as whining.  Mean spirited.  Clueless.

Obama does have a vision.  Oh, yes.  He wants us to be just like Europe.  Have you looked at Europe lately?  I certainly don't want our country to emulate them.  I want our country to be less about government and those who run it and more about us and what we can do and what we can be.  I know, like my Mom before me, I lived in the good old days.

The nastiness apparently isn't going to go away.  Accusing a candidate of possibly being being a felon is pretty low.  There is nothing illegal about Swiss bank accounts.  There is nothing transparent about hiding collegiate transcripts.  There is nothing honorable about circumventing congress with executive orders of questionable legality to boot.

Unfortunately one of them will win.  It does boil down to one important factor.  How much government do we want in our lives.  It's been repeated ad nauseam.  We know exactly where Obama stands.  He has made no secret of it.  What he hasn't spelled out is where the government is going to get the money to fulfill his lofty ambitions with our economy in the tank.  Raising taxes on the rich won't cut it.

With Romney who knows?  Considering his business background I'd expect him to be a champion for free enterprise.  I'm not going to go to his website and read his 59 point explanation of how he's going to revive the economy to free our enterprises however.  I want him to tell me!  With passion and conviction.  Convince me he can do it.  But, no, all we get is defense against Obama's groundless accusations.

Some choice.  What has happened to us?

Administration Most Foul

When the chief law enforcement officer of the United States tells deliberate lies for the sake of votes, I don't think there is much hope for this country. Don't tell me those in other administrations have done  much the same.  Giving it a pass because someone else has done it before doesn't make it right.  It does nothing more than perpetuate wrong.

First we've been wading through the 'Fast and Furious' mess where the Attorney General has refused to produce documents subpoenaed by Congress.  I for one cannot help but wonder who is being protected and why.  If the issue was as forthright as Eric Holder would have us believe, give up the blasted documents!  But no.  The President has gotten involved and declared executive privilege.  Why?  Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.  All due respect to Sir Walter Scott.

The deceit hasn't stopped with that.  Now the Attorney General, in a speech to the NAACP, is accusing Texas of denying it's people, read blacks and Hispanics, the right to vote by requiring voter ID.  Even more to the point he's insinuating it's racist, a poll tax of sorts because those effected would probably live in rural areas and be unable to obtain the necessary ID what's more afford it.

We should as a nation be incensed.  There is nothing further from the truth.  Yes, voters in Texas are required to show some sort of identification.  It can be a driver's license, a passport, military ID, even a carry permit for a weapon! If one still needs identification after all those choices, the Texas Department of Public Safety will issue an Election ID card free for the asking.  As far as I know the U.S. Mail is still in service and if you can't write the request there is surely someone in your community that can. Of course if you can neither read nor write I don't want you voting anyway!  But that's me, my opinion, not the AG pandering for votes.

According to The Wall Street Journal poll taxes were deemed illegal in 1964 by way of the 24th Amendment. It has been tested in court as recently as 2009 and upheld.  If the AG isn't aware of this he should not be AG.  But of course he is.  That's the problem.

Okay, the rational is it's politics.  Indeed.  Leave politics to the politicians.  They're egregious enough.  The Attorney General of the United States is a law enforcement officer.  His job is to uphold the laws of the United States of America.  Not break them. Not to plead ignorance of them.  Not to ignore them.  And most certainly not to lie about them.

Religious Bullies

Have you ever noticed how many wrongs are justified by religion?  A case in point is the young woman I wrote about yesterday.  Executed after having been accused of adultery by her Islamic tormentors.

Why is it when the word 'religion' comes into play such behavior is given a pass?  I'm not going to spend time tracking misdeeds through the centuries.  All the monotheistic religions have had their low points.  The current high of low points, however, seems to belong to the radical Islamists.  They not only seem bent on destroying the lives of all those who don't believe, or interpret, as they do, but also all visages under the pretext they are symbols of paganism.  They seem not to care that paganism itself is a religion of sorts.  Never mind the historical and cultural significance of that which is to be destroyed.

Back in 2001 Afghan Taliban demolished the magnificently huge 2000 year old statues of Buddha. The reason was to stop the worshipping of false idols.  The world stood by aghast.  And let it happen.  If it had been done under any other pretext than religion would the world have stood by?

I don't think for a moment that the Taliban are stronger in their beliefs than others.  I do believe they know they have the world cowed and act with impunity.

Does that seem a little harsh? Consider this.  It's being reported that Muslim clerics are now encouraging Egypt's new president to destroy Egypt's Pyramids!  Why?  For the same reason; they are symbols of paganism.  Apparently technology has progressed to the point where this would not be that difficult an undertaking if the spirit is willing.  I wouldn't bet that it isn't.

So far the fanatics that call themselves Christians in the western world haven't taken to destroying historical structures or killing those they hate, at least not in the numbers the Islamists do.  Does that make them less fanatical?  I don't think so.  Just a bit more civilized in a society that does demand consequences for egregious actions.

On the other hand, there is a steady infiltration of radicals into the west.  What's to come?  When we deny permission for the building of a mosque will they destroy one of our great cathedrals or synagogues?

My sensibilities say no, impossible.  My intellect say it's entirely possible as long as it's under the guise of 'religion'.

It's Time To Get Tough!

Why is it we keep rewarding Afghanistan for bad behavior?  First there are the unaccounted for billions we've already given them.  Then there are the unending apologies for waging their war and training their troops for which ours get killed.

Now we have bestowed upon them the designation of 'major non-NATO ally'.  Whatever that means.  I really don't see that we are going to get anything for it.  They will get billions more.  Why are all the pledges going their way?

The President has accused Americans of having become soft.  Perhaps we have.  After all, we have his example to follow.  Where is the pledge from Karzai that he won't try to manipulate the system and run for office again?  Where is the pledge that he will stop his military from killing ours? What about furthering women's rights?  Why aren't we demanding results before we hand over the money rather than forking it over and hoping for the best?

At least the rest of the world is beginning to toughen up.  In an effort to get countries to pony up some $16 billion in development aid between now and 2015, they have put conditions on the deliverance of the money.  About 80 of them.  Let's face it, money is tight everywhere.  Pouring billions into openly rogue nations isn't sitting well with their own citizens who are in dire straits of their own.

We can only wait and see what will happen as Afghan elections get closer. The killing of our troops continues as of yesterday.  And women's rights?  How many of you watched the painfully hideous execution of a young woman while the men stood around cheering.  They pumped nine bullets into this woman who huddled helplessly.  She had been accused of adultery and had been tried and executed within in an hour of the accusation.

Money Mr. Karzai?  Not another bloody cent.  You say it was the Taliban?  They were on your soil not more than 50 miles from Kabul where you were no doubt counting your gold pieces in the security of your palace.

What can you possibly do for us?  You can't even protect your women from the monsters within your own country. Nope.  Not one red cent more. And don't expect an apology.
